Fish out of Water

by Derek Benfield

Fish out of Water

by Derek Benfield

Its everyone's worst holiday nightmare come true: Strikes, long delays at the airport, no taxis and double booked rooms all feature in the upcoming production of the Bodensee Players “Fish out of Water” by Derek Benfield.

This uproarious comedy is set in the romantic atmosphere of a sun-drenched hotel on the Italian Riviera, where the peace of the holiday-makers is shattered by the arrival of a determinedly outspoken widow, Agatha Hepworth, and her timid spinster sister, Fiona Francis. Agatha crushes all protests as she rounds up the hotel guests and employees into communal games and other healthy pursuits. Her unflagging spirit of togetherness invades the private lives of all the characters with riotous results.

Amongst the other guests and employees are a retired army officer under the thumb of his wife, the amorous hotel manager, the hotel touring host trying to sort out all the problems and the hotel maid cleverly fighting off the attentions of the brigadier and a much younger rival.

Enjoy an amusing evening with a surprising outcome!

Jean is preparing a birthday dinner for her mild-mannered accountant husband Henry.  Good friends Betty and Vic are expected any minute, and Jean is frantic because Henry is late.  When he eventually arrives, Jean finds him not quite the man he used to be.  He wants to emigrate to Barcelona immediately, and with good reason: the briefcase he accidentally picked up on the Underground is stuffed with bundles of fifty pound notes amounting to £735,000!  But if getting the money was easy, keeping it proves harder, as not one but two police inspectors call and Henry, Vic, Betty and a bemused (and tipsy) Jean are forced into a frantic game of cat and mouse.  Hilarious innuendo and cruelly funny turns of fate ensue as the two couples assume all sorts of identities in their battle to keep the money.  Will they succeed?  The cabby Bill has the answer!
